Reasonable Adjustments Policy

Reasonable Adjustments Policy

1. Introduction

The REH Academy is committed to ensuring that all learners, including those with disabilities or health conditions, are provided with equal access to training, assessments, and certification. We aim to make reasonable adjustments where necessary to ensure that no learner is substantially disadvantaged during their learning journey or when working towards Continuing Professional Development (CPD) certification.

2. Purpose

This policy outlines The REH Academy's approach to providing reasonable adjustments for learners with disabilities, physical, or mental health conditions, ensuring an inclusive and accessible learning environment.

3. Scope

This policy applies to all learners enrolled in any of The REH Academy's eLearning courses who require adjustments during training or assessment. The policy is designed to ensure that learners with disabilities or health conditions are not unfairly impacted by the structure or delivery of the learning and assessment process.

4. Definition of Reasonable Adjustments

Reasonable adjustments are modifications or accommodations made to the learning environment, materials, assessments, or delivery methods to enable learners with disabilities or health conditions to participate on an equal basis with other learners. These adjustments may include, but are not limited to:

  • Extended time for assessments
  • Provision of alternative formats for learning materials (e.g., audio, braille, large print)
  • Use of assistive technologies
  • Adjusted assessment methods (e.g., oral assessments instead of written tests)
  • Modifications to course delivery methods or schedules to accommodate health conditions
  • Access to support services, such as a mentor or sign language interpreter

5. Process for Requesting Reasonable Adjustments

To ensure that reasonable adjustments can be considered and implemented effectively, learners must notify The REH Academy in advance of any disabilities or health conditions that may require adjustments. The process for requesting reasonable adjustments is as follows:

  1. Initial Request: Learners should submit a request for reasonable adjustments via email or through the course platform, outlining their specific needs. This request should be made as early as possible, preferably before the course starts or as soon as the need for adjustments is identified.
  2. Review of Request: Once a request is received, The REH Academy will assess the learner's needs on a case-by-case basis. The learner may be asked to provide relevant documentation, such as a medical certificate or report from a healthcare professional, to support the request.
  3. Implementation of Adjustments: After reviewing the request, The REH Academy will notify the learner of the agreed-upon adjustments. We will make every effort to implement the necessary accommodations promptly.
  4. Review of Adjustments: The adjustments will be monitored to ensure they are effective. If a learner feels that the adjustments are insufficient or need further revision, they can contact The REH Academy to discuss alternative solutions.

6. Types of Reasonable Adjustments

The following are examples of potential adjustments that may be made for learners:

  • Additional Time: Extra time for completing assignments, assessments, or exams.
  • Alternative Assessment Methods: Replacing written assessments with oral presentations, or allowing the use of assistive technologies during assessments.
  • Accessible Materials: Providing learning materials in formats such as audio, large print, or digital text.
  • Flexible Deadlines: Extended deadlines for course completion or assessments due to health conditions.
  • Supportive Technologies: Granting access to assistive technology tools like screen readers, voice recognition software, or text-to-speech tools.
  • Course Delivery Flexibility: Adjusting the course schedule, allowing for breaks, or offering a slower pace for learners who need additional time to complete the course.

7. Confidentiality

The REH Academy takes the privacy of all learners seriously. Any personal information provided in connection with a request for reasonable adjustments will be kept confidential and will only be shared with relevant staff members who need to be involved in implementing the adjustments.

8. Responsibilities

  • Learners: Learners are responsible for notifying The REH Academy in advance if they require reasonable adjustments. It is also the learner’s responsibility to engage with The REH Academy throughout the process and inform us if additional support is needed during their learning journey.
  • The REH Academy: The Academy is responsible for reviewing requests for reasonable adjustments, ensuring that appropriate accommodations are made, and providing learners with clear communication about the adjustments being implemented.

9. Review and Feedback

The REH Academy is committed to continuously improving its approach to reasonable adjustments. We encourage feedback from learners to ensure our policies and practices meet their needs and improve the learning experience for all. Any suggestions for improvement should be directed to our support team.
